Long story short about dual sport bikes on the Great Divide

The Adventure Cycling blog has a good, short article about dual sport guys riding the Great Divide.

Now, while I would hate seeing the Great Divide get overrun with motorized vehicles, I don't think the occasional dual-sport motorcycle rider is anything to get upset about. After all, these guys and gals are not Hells' Angels; in fact, they share a spirit of adventure much like the one possessed by long-distance bikepackers.

29 Dreams Motorcycle Resort

Not sure what to make of the 29 Dreams Motorcycle Resort. Maybe it's the name that threw me off, but after a bit of reading it appears they've named it after the number of acres: 29.

There appears to be lots going on: events every month, newsletters back to 2008, a blog, Facebook and MySpace page, and membership is only $29. I'd probably pay the $5 fee to check it out for the day, especially if a band was playing.

A haven for motorcycle enthusiast nestled in the foothills of the Southern Appalachian Mountains, 29 Dreams is located just south of Birmingham, Alabama on scenic Highway 25. Conceived and built by an avid motorcyclist, 29 Dreams provides the perfect place to stop with friends, old and new, for good food, cold drinks, and good conversation.  29 Dreams is a private club operating with a motorcycle motif in a country club type setting.  Membership is just $29.00 a year or you can visit for the day for $5.00.

Bajaj Auto gained 4.1% during the week after the company's motorcycle sales rose 52% in October 2009.

I don't know about you, but if I lived in India, I would certainly ride my Bajaj Discover DTS-Si to the Pink Floyd Hotel. Check out the other places on the Bajaj Discover map, too, like the Nilambur School of Magic.

This guy rode 6,000 miles on his 2008 Yamaha WR250R. As he says:

Fuel injection, 6spd transmission, ~25-30hp, ~300 pounds wet. IMO, the best 50/50 dual sport on the market. It'll roll 65+mph all day long and take you anywhere off road you're brave enough to ride it short of maybe sand dunes and hill climbs.

 

In keeping with my new policy, I have to say that's a pretty sexy bike.

Vacation leaves little time for blogging

My vacation is almost over, and I just noticed that I haven't written anything here since July. I'll be back at it next week. Here's a shot of where I was earlier this week, in Mendocino County, CA.

Maui Dual Sport closed

Not sure when they closed, but it was sometime after August 31, 2008. Best wishes to the owner. Hope they can open again soon.

... Maui Dual Sport is not in operation at the moment. It is possible that we will reopen for business, but that date is yet to be determined. It was a pleasure doing business with you, and hopefully we will have another opportunity in the near future to make your stay in Maui a memorable one.
